A lab grown diamond ring in India is priced in three parts: the diamond, the gold (weight × that day's gold rate × karat), and making charges, plus 3% GST. Once you understand those three, you can compare any two jewellers fairly.
1. The diamond: price per carat
Lab grown diamond prices depend on the 4Cs: carat, cut, colour and clarity. Larger stones and higher grades (for example D–F colour, VVS clarity) cost more. At Woke Collection our certified lab grown diamonds are priced at about ₹32,000 per carat, and every centre stone comes with an IGI or SGL certificate.
Tip: always ask for the certificate number and check it on the lab's website. A ring without an independent certificate is impossible to price fairly.
2. The gold: weight, karat and today's rate
Gold is charged by weight at that day's rate, adjusted for purity:
- 9K is 37.5% gold: most affordable, very durable.
- 14K is 58.5% gold: the most popular balance of price and richness.
- 18K is 75% gold: deepest colour, highest price.
Because the gold rate changes every day, the same ring can cost a little more or less from one week to the next. On our solitaire product pages you can open the price breakup to see the gold rate, weight and making charges we used.
3. Making charges and GST
Making charges cover design, casting, setting and polishing. Some jewellers charge per gram, others a percentage; ask which. GST on jewellery in India is 3%.
Worked example: a 1 carat lab grown diamond solitaire in 14K gold
This is an illustration only. Your actual price depends on design, gold weight and that day's rate.
| 1 carat certified lab grown diamond | about ₹32,000 |
| Gold: about 3 g of 14K at a 24K rate of ₹14,800/g | about ₹26,000 |
| Making: about 3 g × ₹1,800 | about ₹5,400 |
| GST at 3% | about ₹1,900 |
| Approximate total | about ₹65,000 |
Halo, pavé bands and 18K gold increase the total; 9K gold and simpler settings reduce it.
How to avoid overpaying
- Ask for a line-by-line breakup: diamond, gold weight, gold rate, making, GST.
- Insist on an IGI, SGL or GIA certificate for the centre stone.
- Check the buyback policy. At Woke Collection lab grown diamonds carry an 80% buyback.
- Compare the same carat, colour and clarity. A "cheap" ring is often a lower grade.
